What is APPCHAT? We know that applying to college can be an overwhelming process to go through, especially if you feel like you don’t know what to do. We also know that this year’s college application process is particuarly difficult because you can’t easily access your support system at Summer Search and at your schools right now.

APPCHAT is a webinar series where we’ll complete college and financial aid applications LIVE. We invite you to join APPCHAT and complete your application with us! If you become stuck on any part of your application during the webinar, you can ask for support and get an answer in real time!

APPCHAT: FAFSA

DATE: OCTOBER 27TH, 2020

TIME: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

LOCATION: Zoom (click on the APPCHAT image above to join the webinar)

WHAT TO BRING TO THE EVENT: Your FSA ID, a parent’s FSA ID, and your parent’s 2019 1040 tax form

IMPORTANT NOTE:

1) If you have an older sibling who is in college or has attended college, they should have created an FSA ID for your parent. You MUST get the parent’s FSA ID information from your older sibling.

2) if your biological parents are UNDOCUMENTED or you are under LEGAL GUARDIANSHIP, WARD OF THE COURT or in FOSTER CASE you do not need to have your parent’s FSA ID OR their 2019 tax form.

3) If your biological parents live in seperate households and you visit both parents, bring the 2019 tax form of the parent you SPEND MORE TIME WITH.

You must set up your FSA ID as well as your parent’s FSA ID before the event to complete your application with us. Instructions on registering your account are below.

Register your FSA ID in 5 Steps

1. To register for your FSA ID, you need to know your social security number. If you don’t know it or know where to find it, ask your guardian for it.

2. Visit the FSA ID website

3. In the “Create your FSA ID” box, insert what you want your FSA ID and password to be.

4. Complete the application questions on the following page, including coming up with a couple of “challenge'“ questions in case you forget your username or password.

5. Save your FSA ID username and password! You can use Dashlane to store up to 50 passwords on one device for free!

To register your Parent’s FSA ID, follow the same EXACT steps you followed to create your own. Instead, input your parent’s information including their name, birth date, social security number, etc. For your parent’s FSA ID, I recommend using an e-mail address that you have access to.
