The New York Times College Scholarship Program was established in 1999 as a way to support high achieving yet financially underprivileged high school students from the greater New York City community.

Award Amount

$15,000 annually, renewable for up to three years as long as the student maintains a good academic record and makes normal progress toward a degree. The scholarships may be used to pay tuition, room, board, fees and other educational expenses.

Recipients

Ten awards offered annually.

Additional Information

Candidates must have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, a commitment to learning and community service, success in the face of adversity, and significant financial need. Preference will be given to students whose parents have not graduated from accredited American four-year colleges or universities. Please note: Children of employees of The New York Times Company Foundation, The New York Times College Scholarship Program, or The New York Times Company and its subsidiaries are not eligible for The New York Times College Scholarship.

The AXA Achievement Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Awards recipients are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college.

The 2020 program will be accepting applications from September 1, 2019 until 10,000 applications are submitted or December 15, 2019, whichever comes first. Your application MUST be one of the first 10,000 completed and submitted electronically by the deadline date. Apply early!

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants to the AXA Achievement Scholarship must:

• Be a United States citizen or legal resident living or claiming residency in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico.

• Be a current high school senior who plans to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire 2020-21 academic year. Enrollment at an accredited post-secondary institution outside of the United States will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

• Demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community or work-related activities.

Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the BURGER KING℠ Scholars program has awarded $35 million in scholarships to more than 33,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000.

Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school.

You must apply within the application period, and fit the prerequisites below:

• Have a strong academic record with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5,

• Be passionate about serving the community, and

• Be a high school senior, BURGER KING® employee, spouse/domestic partner or child of an employee.

The application period for the 2020-2021 school year begins on Oct. 15, 2019 and closes Dec. 15, 2019.
